Call for Papers – Emerging Spiritualities: The Trajectory of New Spiritual Practices in Turkish Society

I'm pleased to invite scholars to submit abstracts for my panel “Emerging Spiritualities: The Trajectory of New Spiritual Practices in Turkish Society”, which will take place at the Commission on Anthropology of the Middle East Conference (September 10–12, 2025, IFEA, Istanbul).
In recent decades, Turkey has witnessed a remarkable transformation in spiritual practices, influenced by globalization, digitalization, and shifting religious dynamics. This panel will explore alternative spiritual movements, their interactions with traditional religious frameworks, and the broader sociopolitical implications of these changes.
Topics of interest include:
New spiritual movements and identity formation
The influence of globalization and digital technologies on spirituality
Integration of folkloric Islamic traditions into new spiritual practices
Tensions between secularism, individualism, and religious conservatism
